The Storm

If you ignore the digging, car brushing off, the driving, the cold and the blistering wind - it's absolutely beautiful:

Early in the storm, I'm inside.  Poor little Bart has to go outside.  He's established a little pathway to the right.  Nothing like the winter interest of a watering can to the left.....

A few hours later.  I'd cut a lot of material down after ice storm last year to help clear the area for the fence repair.  Looking forward to establishing larger plant material this year.

And my establishing shot from the front porch.  Now, you probably can't see too well, but the plow drove up over the sidewalk and into my corner bed.  Something to consider for redesign - do I continue to have a corner bed?

At noon, the storm was done.

Really does look like a soft blanket doesn't it?

At 4:30, Kevin, Bart and I headed off to the mailbox to pick up our mail.  You can almost make out where the truck has pushed the snow:

This is a little further down the street - so beautiful:

I had been shovelling earlier when one of these patches of snow let go on my head:

So much snow that this street hasn't even been touched by plows:

And finally the mailboxes - alas, Canada Post called it a snow day and didn't bother to deliver.  The snow is up over your knees here:

See how pretty the snow is on the evergreens.  So much better when it isn't wrapped in burlap.

One of about five urns:

Dear Sedum trying to keep their heads above the rising snow line.

My big front rock, just barely visible.

And a long-shadowed goodbye for this blog post for the day.  Stay warm!  More snow scheduled all week long.

Hello Barb girl !
It is going on here hard in Kingston too this morning .. yesterday it was -25 when garden PA got up .. god knows if it was windy what the wind chill would have been .. RAW !!
You took some beautiful snow pictures and my eye is so drawn to the wood work around your porch .. the circle within the lattice is so pretty.
Yes snow looks lovely and clean, for a while .... but when will Spring decide to drop by for it's QUICK visit , is what I am wondering about!
Positive thought? snow equals ground water eventually and that is a good thing : )

Yes, looks about the same here in downtown Toronto. Your comments about the watering can and Canada Post brought a smile.

I think anything covered with snow in the garden constitutes "winter interest". For me, it's the patio chairs I was too lazy to bring in!

Lovely snow....I don't think I have ever heard of our post calling it a snow day and we had 2 ft....interesting.

It is really beautiful. Chicago looked like that, too, last weekend during and after the blizzard. We were there in the middle of it, and I kept thinking to myself how pretty it would be if we didn't need to travel through it. Great post!

Hi Joy !
It has been so pretty here. The sun has been shining for the past couple of days - almost wish I still had skis. It's amazing to feel the heat of the sun through my ski jacket when it's -25C with the windchill. And, yes, (positive thoughts) up until now it had been a dry winter, so I guess we should be over the moon about the next 15cm of snow on the way!

I think patio chairs make an excellent 4-season feature. A friend posted on Facebook that the snow was up to the top of his bench - so that would make it his "bench mark" for snowfall.
Donna,
Ever since they've taken away our home delivery, they've become ever-so delicate when the weather becomes testy. I guess it's easier to bog off when someone isn't putting in an appearance at your door....

You have been hammered haven't you. Have seen all sorts of pictures on the news of all your storms. And, so true, it is indeed gorgeous if we all could just kick back and enjoy it rather than have to fight with it to get on with our daily lives.

Dear Barbara,
oh, winter wonderland is fantastic! You realy have enough snow. My garden is also still covered with snow. Everything seems to sleep underneath!
Have a wonderful time. Hope your spring will arrive soon.
All my best from an Austrian gardener

This is the precise weblog for anybody who needs to seek out out about this topic. You notice so much its almost arduous to argue with you. You positively put a brand new spin on a subject that's been written about for years. Nice stuff, simply nice!
