Whoo-Hoo Just Back From Oregon

Had a fabulous time at the garden writers convention and trade show in Portland, Oregon. Portland is an exceptionally livable city - light rapid transit from the airport, free transit downtown, excellent scenery, clean air and just a really pleasant vibe. And the gardens...nothing like living in a climate where you can plant a stick and have it be something remarkable in no time at all.

Just have to share some of my pics from Ernie and Marietta O'Byrne's garden near Eugene. They have the sort of collectors garden that had me running from plant to plant, fondling anything within touching distance. And the collection has been so carefully thought out and placed that I could wander around for days in a state of enchantment. Not only were the plants beautiful they were immense - leading me to believe that they must only sell the miniature versions on this side of North America.

It sounds like a great conference, and the garden that you toured looks wonderful.
I think my plants could use a trip to Oregon for the winter. They would appreciate a break from zone 3, and maybe they would come back with a growth spurt.

Hi there Barbara!
Thank you for visiting my blog and letting me know about the 'bee"
And the girls love all the compliments possible .. they have huge egos ! haha
Love the pictures from the coast. We lived in Comox B.C. for a while so I know how lush it can be there.
Thanks again !
Joy
P.S. if you ever need anyone in zone 5b to do plant trials ? who do I have to bribe ??? LOL

N.S. You bet! Apparently it starts to rain next month and continues to be wet all winter - hence the "biggie-size" - we'd need to hire a transport truck to handle their expanded waistlines.
Joy - My Hercules says a big hello to the girls - Sounds like we both have the same 'drug of choice' as well - can never say no to a new (and free) plant!

Barbara,
I am so enjoying hearing about the GWA conference and seeing pictures of the gardens there. I have cousins in that part of the world and the gardens are spectacular, but I'm not sure I could handle all the rain. I'd just want to sit and read, tea and cookies at hand.

Pat - I'd start with the carbs the first sign of rain and would have to be wedged out of my chair by summer - feel the same way about Vancouver - they're blessed with an ideal climate for plants - not people. However, I've been there at least once when the sun was shining, and I could see the mountains and ocean....I could almost forget about all that rain.
