We're all huddled up in my office waiting for Rick, the furnace repair man. You know you have an old furnace when you're on a first name basis with the furnace guy. Fortunately it's still warm out - about 12C or so - so the house is hovering at about 17C. He's promising to be here in about 2-1/2 hours, so hopeful that we can breathe enough life into the old beast to get us through the next 2 months. Fingers crossed.
Out in the yard yesterday, the warm weather was helping the Hellebore's buds swell - this is my front yard Ivory Prince.

First year ever - yes, I realize it's only March, and I'm counting chickens before the eggs hatch - but this will be the first year ever, I've wintered over a rosemary.....which would be brilliant.
And just because it's been a while, here are a few crimes against evergreens, showing that burlap in the wrong hands is dangerous...I believe these are spruce:

And one last shot of the day - a Where's Waldo? How many swans can you count in this photo? Never seen so many flying in a flock. Lovely to see them and here their soft woo-woo-woo sounds.

Heating never gives any trouble in the middle of summer when you don't need it!I see you continue to rail against burlap, it is so unsightly. Those shrubs could look like the witches in Macbeth on a dark night!
They do don't they - so ridiculous when you realize they were planted to withstand cold and give winter colour. Fortunately furnace up and running and not too hideously expensive. Will really have to seriously save for next winter - fear that we'll have to bite the bullet next year for a completely new system. Would really prefer to spend money on pretty stuff, but not much point sitting on recovered furniture when your lips, fingers and feet are blue from the cold.
