Rain, Slush, Sleet, Snow

We got a lot of wet weather over the last couple of days.  The Texas low turned out to be a lot warmer than forecast - so rather than 40cm of snow - I don't even want to think about it - we got rain and sleet.  Here's my only blooming plant - the Hamamelis - as you guessed, it will appear regularly until I have anything else to show you.

This is a tricky time of year, as the snow starts to recede, water starts to puddle and freeze - often damaging plants that have started to grow - this is why I like my beds to be a little higher than the grass with almost a ditch-like edge to help keep the puddle away from them.

I left an AA phone number next to the Chasmanthium before I got in the car to go to Georgetown.

I had an appointment up Trafalgar Road which runs north/south.  The further north I got, the more fantastical the views.  (While I didn't pull over, I did take these shots through the window while I was at a red light....quite amazing.)

Red light #2.

Red light #2 through the side window.

OK you caught me - no red light, but no cars either.

Well, maybe just one.

Looking back I'd wished I'd had time to stop and take some proper photos.  No doubt there's more winter to come, so I'll be sure to add more time into my schedule next time.

First the Chasmanthium has to admit there's a problem. It may think it can get up any time it wants.

I like Jason's little joke. We certainly had some interesting weather last week! Snow has pretty consistently said on the ground since late December. Often there is a thaw mid-winter, but not this year. We seem to be enjoying a genuine Canadian winter.

It really is a more old fashioned type of winter. When I start to whinge, I think of those old Montreal winters and slap myself up the side of the head - it's not as cold, there's not as much snow, and it's much easier to get around to enjoy.
